Dr. Gustavo Leone is the Director of Music at the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. In addition to being Director, he also teaches theory and composition.

Leone is a guitarist and composer originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina. As a guitarist he has played with ensembles such as Collegium Musicum and the Contemporary Chamber Players. His music is included in the catalogs of C.F. Perters, New York, and Lyon and Healy, Chicago. Ensembles and organizations such as Composers' Conference, San Luis Obispo Chamber Orchestra, Concertante di Chicafo, the Chicago Sinfonietta, and the Czech National Symphony Orchestra have commissioned, played, and recored Leone's music. His work for the theatre includes compositions for productions at the Looking Glass, the Goodman, and Victory Gardens.

 

Upcoming Projects:

Current projects include a commission from harpist Faye Seeman for a harp solo work to be premiered in September of 2007; writing music for The Cook, by Eduardo Machado, opening at the Goodman Theatre in October of 2007; as well as a commission by the San Luis Obispo Chamber Orchestra, Fantasia Duo, for violin, guitar and orchestra, premiering on March 25, 2008.

 

Recipient:

Walter Hinrichsen Award in composition given by the American Academy of Art and Letters.
