Dr. Marla Hand is curator of the Robert B. Mayer Family Collection, an eclectic, private art collection in Chicago, which includes Impressionist masterpieces and important examples of Abstract Expressionism, Pop and Photorealism. It also comprises Asian and Tribal as well as European decorative arts.

In addition to managing this collection, Dr. Hand has taught art history part-time at Loyola since 1986 in the College of Arts and Sciences, the Chicago Studies Program, the former School of Professional Studies adn the former Mundelein College. She is interested in modern and contemporary art and strives to promote an awareness of Chicago art in class. An enthusiast of late 19th century Symbolist art, she enjoys the conflicting decandent and inspiring themes of fin de siecle art and literature. Her research has appeared in The Art Journal and she has written exhibition reviews for The New Art Examiner.
