Michael Bassett teaches a variety of theatre and communication classes at Loyola University including Playwriting, Screenwriting, Teleplay, and Dramatic Structure and Theatrical Process.
He was twice awarded a Hawthorndon Writing Fellowship in Scotland and was awarded a Sloan Science and Technology Commission in New York City. He was a keynote speaker for the Arts/Science International Annual Conference at the Museum of Natural History in New York City with physicist, Brian Greene and choreographer, Sandra Kaufmann for their production of “Superstrings”.
His stage plays have been produced in New York City at the OHIO Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre and Circle Rep Lab; in Chicago at Boxer Rebellion and the Theatre Building; and in Los Angeles at Actors Repertory Company.
As a playwright and actor, Michael has performed as a member of the celebrated Circle Rep Lab in New York. He has won honors at the Hiroshima, Athens, Las Vegas, Toronto, and Rochester Film and Video festivals. Additionally, he was one of the film editors for Hyperbaric Productions award-winning documentary, “By the People”. His short film, “The White Box” is currently making its way around the festival circuit.
He has produced and directed a number of projects through 13Carat Productions, (13carat.com) including Film, Theatre, Dance, Photography, and Multi-Media installations. He collaborates with many musicians and choreographers on original work in video and dance and currently works with MOMENTA and MOMENTA Repertory Ensemble creating video installations for evening length dance dramas.
Michael is an acting teacher of the Sanford Meisner theory and technique.
