"1870" Award
Excellence Awards 2013
Loyola University Chicago was founded in 1870. Since that time, it has developed into a vibrant, exciting, and world renowned university. Just as the University grew and developed, so does every student entering its doors. The University encourages every entering student to make the most of their first year and has developed guidelines for doing that in “The Loyola Experience: The Four-Year Plan for Student Transformation.”
The “1870” Award seeks to identify a first year student who has exemplified the Year One Goals of The Loyola Experience. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the achievement of these first-year goals:
- Develop the habits necessary to engage in challenging intellectual work.
- Participate in the class and in extracurricular activities
- Build relationships and develop support group with other students, mentors, staff, and faculty members.
- Formulate an integrated curricular and cocurricular plan.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of the mission and core values that form the Loyola identity.
