What Attracted Me to CURL:
I was first introduced to CURL's innovative approaches to solving urban issues through my Urban Studies minor. Since growing up in Metro Detroit, I have always had a passion for urban and social issues, and after seeing first-hand the commitment to promoting equity and sustainability on a grassroots level, I knew that I wanted to be a part of the team at CURL. By building bridges between the university and surrounding community, CURL's efforts toward collaborative research with community partners are making a positive change that I am excited to be a part of.
What I Hope to Gain from CURL:
During my time at CURL, I hope to further understand the ways in which the university can positively work with the community while fusing networks of students, staff, and community organizations to create systemic change. As I look toward a future in urban development and prepare to work as a community organizer next year in Detroit, learning from the experiences of those around me and gaining insight on the complexity of urban issues will also be important.
