Assistant Professor Gipsy Escobar Receives Grant to Study Gender Differences in School Discipline

Dr. Escobar and Dr. Fenning, will examine the effects of discipline referrals during the freshman year in high school on undesirable outcomes, such as dropping out of school or becoming engaged in high risk and delinquent behavior, by the senior year. The study will also determine if there are differences by gender and race/ethnicity in both discipline referrals and negative outcomes. The research is being conducted in the Chicago Public School and will help inform prevention-oriented programs that can be delivered by schools.
