ELIGIBILITY TO PARTICIPATE
Because there is only one commencement ceremony per year, students are eligible to participate in the May 2013 commencement ceremony if any of the following apply:
- Received a B.A. degree in December 2012
- Completed all degree requirements by May 11, 2013
- Have 2 or fewer remaining courses for an undergraduate degree and plan to complete this requirement during Summer 2013 (students in this category must have the Assistant Dean confirm by April 1 that the student will complete the requirement during Summer 2013)
While students in the latter category above may participate in the May 2013 ceremony, their degrees will be formally conferred as of August 2013 after they have completed all degree requirements.
ACADEMIC APPAREL
Undergrad Candidates who plan to participate in graduation MUST wear academic apparel that is purchased through the University Bookstore. Note: the correct tassel color for the School of Communication is crimson.
STUDENT SPEAKER
Candidates interested in delivering the Student Commencement Speech should apply by March 8, 2013. The student should be a part of the graduation ceremony on May 10 and the speech should be three to five minutes in length. Ideally the speech should reflect on the experiences of graduates at a Jesuit university. Interested candidates should file a letter of intent, along with a draft of their speech, and a brief resume toscoopergibson@luc.edu. Please include a daytime phone number and email address where you may be contacted during the semester. The Commencement Committee will notify the selected student in April.
GRADUATE INSTRUCTIONS - DAY OF CEREMONY
Graduates wear their caps and gowns to the ceremony and proceed to CFSU Rambler Room by 5:45 p.m. to get their seating card.
In the preparation area, candidates will be given a seat and name card. Keep this card with you at all times during the ceremony. It is essential and you will use it to find your assigned seat and also carry it on stage for the correct announcement of your name.
Purses and other items should be given to family members to hold during the ceremony. There is no area where they can be stored. In addition, you must carry any belongings that you have with you when you cross the stage as you will not return to the same seat.
Graduates must be in their seats in the Gentile Arena by 6:45 p.m. Each graduate will have an assigned seat. The ceremony will begin promptly at 7 p.m. For information concerning ceremony photography, click here
