How do I sign up for Ramble Outdoors Experiences?  

You can sign up online at https://lucapps.luc.edu/webtrac/ (sign-in and then click 'outdoor activities') or sign up in person at the Halas Recreation Center.

Registration is limited and will fill quickly – sign up today to secure your spot.  Generally, no experience is needed and financial aid is available for experiences costing at least $25.  Email outdoors@luc.edu with questions or pmiller2@luc.edu with requests for special accommodations.

2014 Fall Outdoor Experiences  

Sunset Paddle on the Lake
9/4 - 4:00-7:30 PM - $20
Come kayak Lake Michigan with us and experience your own neighborhood from a fresh perspective. Setting out on our local, beautiful lake is a perfect way to peacefully unwind in the evening. Our guided paddles are informal and fun and no experience is necessary! Basic paddling instruction will be provided and then the group will head out for a relaxing lakeside view of Rogers Park.

Saturday Kayak
9/6 - 10 to noon|1pm to 3pm|3pm to 5pm - $20/each
Come kayak Lake Michigan with us and experience your own neighborhood from a fresh perspective. Setting out on our local, beautiful lake is a perfect way to peacefully unwind. Our guided paddles are informal and fun and no experience is necessary! Basic paddling instruction will be provided and then the group will head out for a relaxing lakeside view of Rogers Park. Choose one of three sessions.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding
9/11 or 9/18 – 4:30-7:00- $30/each
Come paddle board on Lake Michigan with us and experience your own neighborhood from a fresh perspective. Paddle boarding is a fun and new way to spend time out on the water with your friends. Setting out on our local, beautiful lake is a perfect way to peacefully unwind in the evening. Our guided paddles are informal and fun and no experience is necessary! Basic paddle boarding instruction will be provided and then the group will head out for a relaxing lakeside view of Rogers Park. We may even have S’mores!

Rock Climbing Anchor Building Course
9/12-9/14 – All Weekend - $165
Come enjoy an adventurous, educational, and refreshing weekend at Devil’s Lake State Park near Baraboo, WI. We will spend Saturday in an Anchor Building workshop with MidWest Mountain Guides providing training for interested parties who want to learn how to setup their own outdoor top rope anchors. Sunday, we will spend the morning climbing the rock faces of Devil’s Lake, and enjoy fun around the campfire while camping out in the evenings. The trip cost of $165 includes transportation, instruction, group gear, sleeping bag, headlamp, tent-lodging, and meals in the field. No experience is required, however, we recommend previous top rope experience and/or a belay qualification at the Halas Rock Wall.

Day Hike @ Starved Rock
9/13 - 8:00AM-6:00PM - $40
Take a break from your studies and experience the outdoors on our day hike to Starved Rock! Starved Rock is a State Park that provides exciting and fresh views. You will be able to hike with your friends while exploring the famous canyons. Besides beautiful rock formations, you will also have the chance to see waterfalls and wildflowers. The group will share a picnic lunch and then head back to campus in the late afternoon. Come explore this beautiful State Park!

Fall Break Fall Colors Backpacking Trip
10/4-10/7/2014 - All Weekend - $165
Are you looking for something different and exciting to do over Fall Break? Join Ramble Outdoors on an exhilarating adventure to Kettle Moraine State Forest! This is a terrific opportunity to build new relationships, learn outdoor skills, reflect, and take a break from the city. The trip cost of $165 includes transportation, instruction, group gear, sleeping bag, headlamp, tent-lodging, and meals on the trail. No prior backpacking or camping experience necessary.

Fall Break Rock Climbing @ Devil’s Lake
10/4-10/7/2014 - All Weekend - $230
Are you looking for something different and exciting to do over Fall Break? Join Ramble Outdoors on a climbing adventure to Devil’s Lake, Wisconsin! On this trip you will have a variety of opportunities such as outdoor rock climbing, hiking, and camping. We will spend time learning the ropes of outdoor rock climbing with Midwest Mountain Guides at the premier “local” climbing destination. While not climbing, the fall colors and amble hiking trails will give your eyes rest from time in the city. The trip cost of $230 includes transportation, instruction, group gear, sleeping bag, headlamp, tent-lodging, and meals in the field. No experience is required, however, we recommend previous top rope experience and/or a belay qualification at the Halas Rock Wall.

Vertical Endeavors Day Trip
10/11/14 – 9:30AM-4:30PM - $38
Looking for a short but fun adventure? Join Ramble Outdoors on an indoor climbing day trip! The new Vertical Endeavors (VE) location in Glendale Heights is one of the largest indoor climbing facilities in the US! There are numerous climbing walls and auto-belays, and three bouldering areas. No prior skills are needed. Beginners are welcome! This will be a half-day indoor climbing adventure including transportation, climbing gear, and admission to VE. Please pack snacks and a lunch for the day.

Self-Propelled Bike Camping Trip
10/18-10/19 – All Weekend - $60
Come join us for a unique adventure as we ride bikes, camp near the lake, and relax in the outdoors. Using only bikes (provided by ChainLinks) and our legs, we will be riding a total of 80 miles up and down the coast of Lake Michigan, leaving Saturday morning and returning Sunday afternoon. Don’t worry if you don’t have a lot of time or experience riding, we will go at a moderate pace and provide instruction as we go. Along the way we’ll make new friends while talking about things like sustainability and life and whatnot. Space is limited so sign up soon!

Custom Experiences

Your group, no matter the size or experience, is welcome at Ramble Outdoors. Learn about yourself and others and become a high functioning and enjoyable team by participating in a custom experience hosted by Ramble Outdoors.  Ramble Outdoors can design a custom trip experience that will be fun, challenging, and provide time away from campus in the natural environment.  A custom trip can strengthen your group in teambuilding, leadership, and provide knowledge and experience in the outdoor setting.
