Save the date! Our next Ruth K. Palmer Research Symposium will be held on April 10, 2026. Our theme: the value of nursing and health-related research. The annual Palmer Symposium celebrates the work of nurse scientists who make vital contributions to health outcomes, like the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing's Lisa Burkhart. Transforming health care, transforming lives
About us
The Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing prepares nurses to provide exceptional health care for all and help create a world free of health inequities. Grounded in the Jesuit tradition of care for the whole person, our nationally recognized degree and certificate programs develop nurses for the highest levels of clinical practice, leadership, and research. With two campuses in the vibrant city of Chicago, Loyola Nursing offers social justice-oriented undergraduate and graduate programs that educate compassionate, innovative, and diverse nurse leaders. Our curriculum prepares students to address the social determinants of health that hinder wellness for the most vulnerable, and our nurse scientists strive to change the lives of the patients and communities we serve through cutting-edge research.

When Kate Heneghan, BSN started nursing school, she never imagined the heartbreak she would face: the unexpected deaths of both parents early in her college career. As the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing's 2025 student speaker, she spoke eloquently about resilience, determination, and how personal tragedy shaped her approach to nursing.
