Beginning Traditions

Sponsoring Department: Student Activities & Greek Affair
Sponsoring Departments in other Divisions: First-Year Experience, Jesuit Community, Provost's Office

You have made the right choice in choosing Loyola. Now make Loyola your home. Over 60% of your time in college will be outside of the classroom—and we have several beginning traditions to experience all of the co-curriculars Loyola has to offer. Every first-year student is greeted by the Vice President of Student Development and welcomed into Convocation. Welcome Week is your chance to explore, build relationships, and have fun. Jesuit Fest continues the introductions with a chance to meet Jesuit priests and brothers on campus as they host a night of food, fun, and games.

Diversity & Multicultural Affairs

Sponsoring Department: Student Diversity & Multicultural Affairs

At Loyola, we value "cura personalis" — care of the whole person. We firmly believe that part of Loyola's promise to prepare people to lead extraordinary lives requires us to truly be a home for all our students -  embracing all races, sexes, gender identities, religions, ethnic backgrounds, socio-economic classes, sexual orientations, and abilities. Our Department of Diversity & Multicultural Affairs (SDMA) provides a variety of programs and educational opportunities to promote diversity and cultivate a critically thinking, supportive community in the Jesuit tradition.

Go Greek

Sponsoring Department: Sorority and Fraternity Life

Fraternity and Sorority organizations offer you an opportunity to enhance university life in a unique environment. Fraternities and sororities promote and value scholarship, leadership, brotherhood/sisterhood, social advancement, service, and diversity. Loyola currently has 17 social Greek organizations with over 500 members.

Leadership Development

Sponsoring Department: Student Leadership Development

There are a variety of leadership opportunities at Loyola - from leading a student organization to taking part in the Ministry leadership team or Loyola Companion to being a Resident Assistant to United Student Government Association (USGA). The first place to start on your leadership journey is the Department of Student Leadership (SLD). SLD provides students with opportunities to enhance their leadership capacity and efficacy while taking part in national workshops and certificate programs. Want to lead? Start with SLD!

Service & Justice

Sponsoring Departments: Campus Ministry and Community Service and Action

The heart of Jesuit education is transforming ourselves into being "leaders-in-service." At Loyola, you will find that every department integrates service and justice into its programs - providing all students to live out Loyola's character of being "men and women for others." Campus Ministry and the Center for Community Service and Action are your first stops in getting engaged in service and justice. From spring/summer/winter break service trips (called Alternative Break Immersions—or ABIs) to community services to Hunger Week, you can get involved today in making the world a better place.

Student Organization

Sponsoring Department: Student Activities & Greek Affairs

Loyola is home to more than 175 student organizations divided into 9 groups: academic/honorary, club sports, cultural/ethnic, Greek, hobby/special interest, media, political/social issues, service/spiritual, and student governments/program boards.
